NUNE ALVARADO

(b. 1950, Sagay City) finished his bachelor’s degree in Advertising at the La Consolacion College School of Architecture and Fine Arts in Bacolod City in 1968 and went to Manila to pursue Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines the following year as a scholar of Purita Kalaw-Ledesma.

Alvarado is the founding member of Pamilya Pintura as well as the Black Artist of Asia in the 1980’s, an artist group that have stimulated artists’ social involvement in the rural communities.  He also founded the artist group Pintor Kulapol in 1988 and currently the Artistic Director of Syano Artlink.

His socially-conscious commitment to depict the onerous conditions of his home society invested him with the 13 Artist Art Award of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, a Grand Prize Award of the Philip Morris Asean Arts Award, twicw in 1997 and 1999, honored in the year 2004 with the Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan sa Larangan ng Pintura by the City of Manila. He was named as the Most Outstanding Negrense Visual Artist in 2010, Garbo sa Bisaya Awardee and Centennial Legacy Awardee in Exellence in Culture and the Arts by La Consolacion College-Bacolod in celebration of its Centennial Anniversary.
