Created by both Charlie Co and Niel Benavente in the year 2020 during the pandemic lock down, the artwork “Limitless” is an acrylic paint on fiberglass artwork depicting two astronauts floating as they would in space. This piece provides intricacy as small details on the astronauts’ suits are visible when looked at closely. One astronaut holds onto a handle, but the other is seemingly drifting above towards the sky, floating towards the bounds of limitless venture upwards.

A large painting composed primarily of neutral colors, and the main piece is what lies in the center, as dark and light tints take the shape of a woman being depicted with elements of a jester. Tucked in between the many corners of the Art District, is Jay-r Delleva’s 2015 work of art entitled, “Emoji“. The piece depicts a “pouty lip” expression on a concrete ball painted with acrylic paint. The use of vivid colors are a stark contrast against the stone walls of the district, bringing the familiar digital symbol to life in a bold, three-dimensional form.

Struggle

The artwork titled  “Struggle” is a mural made with the use of acrylic paint on concrete walls and was painted by Fred Orig in 2020. His brushstrokes create an image of people intertwined and twisted together, seemingly struggling. 

 

Inside these figures are colors that are bright and contrasting as he applies an array of hues like green, yellow, and neon baby blues in an orange backdrop, but these colors slowly fade out at the top, leaving only strokes of dark paint behind.

The “Torotot Boys” is an acrylic on concrete mural and a collaborative piece between Fred Orig, Charlie Co, Dennis Valenciano, and Ryn Paul Gonzales. The artwork was made over the course of 2020 and 2021. Its location is easily visible, being located by the orange building where the Bingo Plus is.

The mural’s bright colors from each brush stroke of paint resembles boys whose mouths are shaped like trumpets, with the black and white depiction of the Virgin Mary in the center, visible even from a mile away. Its vibrant colors shine further as the sun beams down, enhancing its hues.

Megumi Miura, Brandon Braza, Zabiel Nemenzo, Zander Lopez, and Zanna Jamili, created a powerful artwork entitled “Corazon del Arte” which shows the Mexican folk Christian icon, Nuestra Señora de la Santa Muerte or Santa Muerte for short, with some elements combining the Filipino culture. 

The piece stands tall with the figure being surrounded in colorful flowers and skulls. It is an installation made with acrylic on a round bar, modeling aluminum wire, foam, cement, epoxy, and wood.

China Man

The artwork titled “China Man” is an intricate piece of acrylic paint on fiberglass made by both Charlie Co and Neil Benavente in the year 2021.

It depicts a Chinese man in a black and white striped suit sitting on a bench holding a phone, as he appears to be accompanied by two cats, the one on his right being pink and the other green. Amidst a lot of artworks that surround it, it casually sits idly as the passing breeze and individuals walk past them.

The “Peque Gallaga Comic Mural” is a collaborative artwork by Chris Juricich alongside JM Valenciano and Amour Barrido and was crafted during the pandemic of 2020. The mural pays homage to the ever-talented filmmaker, Peque Gallaga, who passed away the same year the piece was completed.Using marker pens as the dominant tool on a concrete wall, the mural shows a compelling dialogue told through the striking comic-style illustrations, bold strokes, and expressive details that bring the stories to life.

Collaborative Work

The “Collaborative Work” is the very first mural created within the walls of the Mandalagan Art District. It’s a piece created with the use of acrylic paint over a concrete wall where it was made with the joint effort of Charlie Co and the late Dennis Ascalon. 

 

This artwork was painted in the year 2013. However, it becomes evident that it still withstands the constant challenge of the elements as it still retains its vibrant glow, as the emotions and their meaning remain trapped and expressed in its paint.
